Note: Even the cannon Gargoyles characters are a bit different here due to this story taking place in it’s own reality.
Shadowstar:
Shadowstar is the daughter of Rhayna and the gargoyle Midnight. She was kidnapped at a young age because of her potential power by the Kindred. Her memories were sealed away, and Shadowstar led a life with them convinced that she had no past. All during her time watching and protecting realities from the Watchers, Shadowstar found herself drawn to certain realities. She spent much of her time wanting to live a normal life, that she was determined to protect all gargoyles.
At first she is drawn to the companionship of Goliath in the XX reality. But soon it is realized, that in this particular reality, it was never meant to be when he dies.
Shadowstar, at first look, has the power to destroy worlds single handedly. She is told that her power is kept in check with the orb she wears around her neck. She also wears two silver arm bracelets that have magical proportions, these keep her from turning to stone at daylight.
During another attack by the Watchers, Shadowstar is taken to the XX2 reality. Here one of the Watchers kidnap Goliath and parade around as him. Shadowstar befriends the people of this reality when they go on an all out mission to save this realities Goliath. She later decides that she wants to leave the Kindred and stay in this reality.
In Hell Hath…, Shadowstar meets Oberon for the first time. It is then picked up that she cannot sense his presence. She is confused by this, but shrugs it off. Later, during a skirmish, she and Oberon discover that they are immune to each other. She also feels a beckoning from a voice far away. During this story, Shadowstar leaves to help this voice. The story then goes to focus on the other characters.
In To Lose Avalon, Shadowstar teams up with Andrian from another reality to save Avalon as they knew it. She learns much from Andrian about control and true power.
In Night Crawers, Shadowstar teams up with the dark vampire world to save them from a premature destruction. During the course of events, Shadowstar wins the Sword of Zeus in combat. After a telepathic backlash, Shadowstar beings to see fragements of her history and also starts to fall out of love with Goliath.
In The Agony of Memory, Shadowstar is infected with a virus made by Hestia given to a Hunter called Eutaru. She goes to Avalon for help in her dying state. Flicker and Rhayna take up the mission. After Flicker saves her life, in one dying blow, she saves his. He realizes then, by her body markings, that she is also a child of Oberon… Rhayna’s daughter. They take her to Avalon to be saved. Oberon then realizes that the Kindred were messing and manipulating her power through the orb she wears. Flicker goes to take the orb from her and it sends him into her psychic plane. Here, he and the unkown feary part of her mind have to get her to accept her past memories.
It is also realized that her face marking had nothing to do with the Kindred and everything to do with the markings of her father and mother. When Rhayna was condemned by her own choices, Shadowstar was left to live with her father in central Europe at his castle. She was then kidnapped and washed of her memories by the Kindred.
For a brief time, in a past she cannot remember, Shadowstar left the Kindred to hide on Earth. Here she met Remy Nathanial and mothered a child, Laren.
Through the course of events she and Flicker develop an untouchable bond together.
Elisa Xanatos:
In one of the realities that Shadowstar encounters, the XX reality, Elisa Maza is the mean spirited wife of David Xanatos.
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
The Kindred are first believed to be the good spirited protectors of all realities. Each person there lives an immortal life that started by leaving their home realities. Everybody there has disasterous powers that can destroy people and worlds. This is due to them only having one to three persona in every reality. (It is explained that the more powerful being have very few counterparts.) It is later shown that they are very cruel and rutheless. Several of them were responsible for the kidnapping of Shadowstar and the destruction of her memories.
The Kindred watch realities with what is called, The Tide pool of Infinite possibilities. It allows them to transport and travel as well. Mirrors are what they use to get between home and realities and for communication. Mirrors always come up as some key in the stories.
The Watchers:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
Many of the Watchers were former Kindred. The Watchers are determined to take over realities. They are designated with 3 slashes of cobalt blue on their face. Many of them have the ability to shape shift, being able to confuse and trick people of different realities.
Xavier:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
Xavier was long believed to be the protector and mentor of Shadowstar. Later it was discovered that he was responsible for the trickery in her life. Xavier is the very powerful counterpart to Xanatos.
Xavier’s main purpose with the Kindred is to watch the Tide Pool and to carry people through it with ease.
Goliath:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
In most realities, Goliath is the leader of the Manhatten clan of gargoyles. In the first reality he is encountered by Shadowstar, they fall madly in love with each other. Shadowstar is then responsible for his death when a Watcher kills him. She feels this guilt for a long time… and when she encounters another Goliath, she isn’t sure how to feel, but in some way, she feels that protecting him would make up for the past.
Lorelei:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
She is Shadowstar’s best friend and elder in the Kindred. Lorelei is killed by other Kindred when she is willing to tell Shadowstar the truth about her past.
Iara:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
Iara is the leader of the Kindred, and the woman most responsible for Shadowstar’s false life. She set up the memory blocks in the girls mind, and she has tried numerous times to get her back to the Kindred.
Corbeau:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
He is the first leader of the Watchers mentioned. In the XX2 reality, he parades around as Goliath. When Shadowstar shares her thoughts telepathically with the other gargoyles, she comes up against his mental block and just assumes it is because Goliath has fewer counterparts. He is later exposed for who is is and killed by Shadowstar.
Xanatos:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
He is a very wealthy man who is often friend and foe of the gargoyles. Xanatos is intrigued by Shadowstar and her adventures. He becomes a very interesting ally. He is also the first to doubt the Kindred’s relationship to Shadowstar pointing out that it’s hardly likely that anybody alone can hold such infinite power.
Elisa Maza:
A New York cop who is closer to Goliath than most people ever are.
Brooklyn, Lexington, Hudson, Bronx:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
These are the members of Goliath’s clan in any reality.
Angela:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
In the XX reality, Angela is killed by the Watchers. In the XX2 reality, she is alive and well. She is the daughter of Goliath and Demona.
Owen:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
He is the right hand man to Xanatos in every reality. In the XX reality, he is killed and a watcher disguises himself as Owen. Puck, one of the Children of Oberon, is really Owen. In the XX2 reality, Shadowstar is immediately able to sense his magical proportions.
Alexander:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
This
is the son of Xanatos and Fox. He has magical abilities due to his relation
to Oberon and Titania. (The latter is Fox’s mother)
Puck:
First appearance: Shadow Over Reality Part I
Puck is one of the 2nd Generation of the Children of Oberon. (The first generation were banished never to be spoken of) He was banned from Avalon and his power was greatly limited. He then took up life as Owen, Xanatos’ assistant. Shadowstar quicly realizes in their adventures that she can join with Puck on a mystical plane and manipulate his powers. Their section attempt at this led to the forming of a psychic link between the two.
Lahcear:
Lahcear is the leader of the Watchers after Corbeau is killed by Shadowstar.
Jessimyn:
At one time, she was a Kindred and friend to Shadowstar. She becomes a Watcher and has to be defeated by Shadowstar. She is noted clearly by her Scottish accent. She is also the wife of Lahcear.
Oberon:
First appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater than Thee
Oberon is the ruler of Avalon. He sits on the throne with his wife, Titania. In a past of Avalon, that nobody recalls, they parented 3 children: Rhayna, Brie and Uly, who openly defied the gods of Olympus in a take over attempt. In their defeat, the children were banished to three different locations. The 2nd generation of children were born with no word or recollection of the events that had conspired before.
In one incident, Oberon made an attempt on the life of the faery, Flicker, and was then sent to live with humanity as his children all were at one time. Upon his return to Avalon, he grew a new heart and allowed Puck to return to Avalon’s soil.
In his first meeting with Shadowstar, it is made known that she cannot sense Oberon. In a sckirmish, they quickly discover that they are immune to each other’s power.
Titania:
She is the wife of Oberon.
First Appearance: Flicker’s Story by Josh Schwartz (In Shadowstar’s stories, Hell Hath…)
There are two versions of Flicker introduced. The first version is in the reality created
by Josh Schwartz. The second is
introduced in Shadowstar’s chosen reality.
Flicker is a firey haired faery with a dark side and a serious
side. His manipulations are over light.
The reality that Shadowstar has taken home (XX2), Flicker
is but a shard of his original self. In
an experiment with mirrors, two realities briefly touched breaking two shards
from the feary being created, Flicker.
One shard went to the XX2 reality, and one darkened shard became
Opaque. The Flicker of the XX2 reality
knew that he was never meant to be.
The XX2 Flicker helped to save Shadowstar from
Eutaru. She then saved his life. In an effort to help rid her of Kindred
influence, he tried to remove the orb from her next and was swept onto her
psychic plane. Along with a feary form
of Shadowstar, he watched the events of her life unfold. During these events they grow an immediate
bond to each other. Which turns into an
untouchable love.
Pallas Athena:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
Athena is introduced as one of the last living gods of
Olympus. She is seen on Avalon by
Flicker and Angela, and is in need of Oberon’s assistance. (The gods of Olympus were killed many years
back by mythed vampires. Their souls reside
in the Underworld with Hades) Oberon
refuses to help her, and she challenges him to make her leave Avalon. Their battle then awakens the hell beast. Athena killed the Hellfury with her own
sword. Hades then banishes her from his
world and from the family.
Gabriel:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
He is one of the gargoyle hatchlings that were brought to
Avalon along with Angela. Currently, he
is in a relationship with the faery, Allison.
The Oracle:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
The Oracle that resides under the Earth with Hellfury
is also known as Rhayna. She was
banished to speak Apollo’s prophecy.
And predict the coming of the beast.
Hellfury:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
His rising would come when the lord of Avalon
destroys the land along with the gods.
This prophecy comes true when Oberon and Athena fight. And then it is time for him to take over
Avalon for the gods. Hellfury is killed
by Athena’s sword.
Rhayna:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
Rhayna is the oldest child of Oberon and Titania. She and her two siblings challenged the gods
of Olympus in their powerful arrogance.
When Uly was killed, Rhayna and Brie challenged Hades to war for his
life. Rhayna had to spend her life with
Hellfury below the Earth, predicting and prophecizing his terror on
Avalon. Rhayna was once the love of
Apollo. They have two children
together, Allison and Geoffe. Rhayna
also had a child with a gargoyle, Midnight.
This child later turned out to be Shadowstar.
Allison:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
She is one of the faeries of Avalon. She is marked by a crescent on her colar
bone. It is later discovered that she
is the daughter of Rhayna and Apollo.
She is called ‘Sun’ as a nick name.
She is also in a relationship with Gabriel.
Hades:
First Appearance: Hell Hath No Fury Greater Than Thee
Hades is one of the only living Olympian gods
left. He is first seen banishing Athena
from his land because she killed his beast, Hellfury. He is also responsible for the punishing and imprisoning of the 1st
generation of faeries.
Andrian:
First Appearance, in stories by Allie Pyper. Here, in To Lose Avalon
Andrian is a faery from one reality in which she and
Goliath are in love, and Flicker is her best friend. When a planet far away, in the XX2 reality is being attacked by
an icognito being… all fearies and people from that Avalon start to feel the
pain… as well as Andrian. She is contacted
by Shadowstar to help in this mission.
Jaze:
First appearance: To Lose Avalon
Head advisor to Wulfe.
Wulfe:
First appearance: To Lose Avalon
Leader of the
planet which holds the mystical lake (the source of all mystical power in the
universe, ie. Avalon)
Opaque:
First appearance: To Lose Avalon
Opaque is a dark various of Flicker. Instead of using brilliant light and
creating things from it’s manipulation… Opaque turns all things black and
darkened. On this mystical planet, he
uses his abilities to suck the mystics out of their lake. This fuels his darkness with more power.
On a psychic plane, he exists. This is where Shadowstar, Andrian, and Puck
go to attack him. He was destroyed by
their combined power, seemingly. Later,
he takes the two counterparts of Puck and Goliath when they accidentally meet
to his realm. What they had destroyed
before was one of his offshoots, gaining power for the vortex. He also reveals to them that he is working
for the Watchers. Opaque admits he is responsible
for killing Lorelei, Shadowstar’s best friend.
Jerememy “Remy”
Nathanial:
First appearance: Night Crawlers
He is a vampire who was killed. His death caused a premature inbalance in nature. His death was the prophesized end to the
vampires. Shadowstar, Goliath and
several others went into Hades to defeat the shadows of the gods to get him
back. His return lessened the plague of
hate that was seeping into their world.
It is later revealed that Shadowstar met Remy while
trying to escape the Kindred. They had
a brief affair which led to the birth of Laren DeVanRoux.
Laren Kira DeVanRoux:
First appearance: Night Crawlers
A vampire woman, who oddly resembles Shadowstar in a
human form. In later stories, it is
revealed that a brief affair with Remy Nathanial, led to her birth. Shadowstar had been hiding from the Kindred
when she met Remy.
Eutaru:
First appearance: The Agony of Memory
He is a creation of the dead gods. His mission was to kill the holder and
retrieve the Sword of Zues (which Shadowstar holds). He was given a gift by each of the gods that are in Hades. This Hunter was forged out of the hate of
the gods and was endowed with Zeus’ lightening, Poseidon’s sea, Artemis’ moon,
Hermes’ agility, Hera’s jealousy, and the charm of Dionysus. Hestia gave
him a virus to infect Shadowstar with.
Midnight:
First appearance: The Agony of Memory
Midnight never appears as a physical form. He just appears in the mind of
Shadowstar. He and Rhayna had a
relationship after Apollo had an affair with Cassandra. Shadowstar was born soon after.
